Blog Number 10

  • I will definitely use excel when I am teaching. Excel is useful in many different ways. I will you it for charts in my classroom. I will use this to keep track of students grades, putting there name, then their grades, and then getting the average. I could also use the pie chart to teach simple math lessons. The most useful way will be keeping track of their grades
  • I found it interesting how different technology is useful for different people, but a lot are also the same. I feel like everyone finds powerpoint very useful which I agree. Every since I started school a powerpoint was in the classroom and it was being used somehow. Now, we are just developing more and more skills with powerpoint that can help us when we teach.
  • I have always struggled with excel so I am glad that it was we are doing now. I hope to feel comfortable with excel after this lesson on it. I know it always gets brought up and can also be useful in the classroom. I think if I feel comfortable with excel it will help me in the long run.

  •  A flipped classroom is an instructional strategy and a type of blended learning that reverses the traditional learning environment by delivering instructional content, often online, outside of the classroom. It is good because it increases student-teacher interaction. It allows teachers to know their student better. It is nice because it enable student to learn about the information before class, it will help them feel more comfortable in the classroom and be more prepared.

  • Open educational resources are resources that anyone can use. These resources are allowed to be copied, sent around, used over again, and it is completely legal and open for everyone.  One OER that I found is called librarian chick. It includes everything from books to quizzes and videos. It includes directories on open source and open educational resources. The link is blow

  • I learned a lot of new skills from the PowerPoints. I learned how to add the shapes and make them lead from one slide to the next. I knew how to add transitions, but I always enjoy adding those. I learned how to add pictures from the internet right onto the powerpoint. I learned how to add a hyperlink to the powerpoint as well. I personally do not think there is a need to disable the powerpoint from going to the next slide. Next time I won't have any trouble figuring out how to do these things because I was able to learn through the powerpoints I just created.

  • When I was in highschool twitter was a very popular social media platform. We used to it communicate with our friends, post everything, and follow funny or relatable accounts. Once I got to college I stopped using twitter. For this class we used it in a very useful way and I enjoyed it. I learned that there is a lot of pages on twitter that are informational, not just for fun. It is perfect for teachers because we can get ideas on lessons and different things in the classroom. It is also helpful to keep up with teacher information.I have not experienced any issues, twitter is very easy to understand and use.

  • I used weebly to create my web design. I like weebly and I did not like weebly. I like that it gave me a outline. It helped me because I did not have to start from scratch in creating a whole website. I did not like it because it was difficult moving things around from the way it was originally set up. I like that I learned the skills of creating my own website. I will improve on this and finding ways to move things around the way I like. I will definitely use this in the future to share with my students' parents in the classroom. link to website: https://osd17eme.weebly.com/

  • Assistive technology is any device, software, or equipment that helps people work around their challenges. Some examples of assistive technology are text-to-speech and word prediction. Assistive technology includes low-tech tools, too, like pencil grips. Adaptive technology refers to special versions of already existing technologies or tools that provide enhancements or different ways of interacting with the technology. The adaptation helps individuals with a disability or impairment accomplish a specific task. I have used assistive technologies. An example is an audio book rather than reading a book to help me get through it. Challenges can be added when using adaptive technologies in the classroom because it might distract some students and it might make the students using these feel uncomfortable because they are doing something different from the rest.

  •  I decided to look on a teacher page for Valley View elementary school. I did so because this is the elementary school that I attended when I was in elementary school. Within this website they included a mission statement and many pictures of students. They have news and events, dates for school breaks. There is a mini letter to the teachers and videos about the school. They have links that go to all of the different departments in the school. Lastly, they have student highlights.

  • I envision myself using technology to accomplish my professional responsibilities more efficiently and effectively in many different ways. To start, I will only use the technology that I am very comfortable with and I know I can use to benefit my classroom. I will use the smart board, most likely every day, to teach lessons. I will use Microsoft word as well for all of my lessons. I will now use diigo to be able to go back to websites that I thought were useful. I will use PowerPoint to share my information to my class as well.

  • When I visited the sandbox the tool that was my favorite was the 3D crayons. These would be very useful in my classroom. This 3D crayon made a little drawing that I would normal do on a piece of paper, come to life, by actually creating an object in 3D. I created and flower and I heart. For my first grade class I could use this to teach them shapes. They could each 3D draw different shapes and pass them around to learn the different shapes.

ILP

I created an infographic for my Independent Learning Project. I did so by using a tool called Piktochart. Within my piktochart I created a timeline of technology throughout the years and what technology may come about in the future. I think this is very prevalent to our class because we are learning about technology in the classroom and I researched the evolution of technology.
The link to my piktochart is below

  • My initial experience with Diigo was good, but I still get a little confused. Although, it is very useful in many ways. It is a very powerful research tool. It makes it easy to take notes directly on a website and share to the class what notes we have taken, and also be able to take notes on different peoples websites. This could be very useful for not forgetting about websites and your thoughts on each website. I like how you can add notes on every website, but I don't like how I have to re upload Diigo on the desktop every time I need it.
  • I really enjoy blogging. Blogging in this class is very useful for me because it gives me time to think back on what I have learned in class, and express how I feel about it in my blog. I enjoy expressing my own opinions and sharing them. It lets me reflect on paper. There's nothing about blogging that I have come across and not enjoyed because it is pretty much straight forward. I like that it can also be made individualistic. I learned that it can be shared to the public and my classmates could make comments on it as well. This could be a very useful too in the future to remember the thoughts, struggles, and likes/dislikes for different programs and topics.
  • Web 2.0 is the second generation of the world wide web. There are tools included and these can be used to create and share products and projects. A tool that can be useful as a teacher would be instagram. Instagram is not a tool we covered in class, but it is a tool I have for my own self. Instagram could be useful in the classroom if we were to make an account as a teacher and follow all different teacher based accounts.

Blog Journal 4

  • When I was growing up twitter was a social media site I always visited. When I got to college I did not use twitter anymore and deleted the app. Now that I have been using twitter in this class I see that it can be a very useful took. In this class I interact with other students taking this course and I follow many different accounts that have to do with teaching and technology in the classroom. I have enjoyed using twitter for this reason and it is even teaching me new things. In my future career I am going to follow different accounts that have to do with my grade level that I teach and other informational accounts. This will help me apply different aspects of education to my classroom.

  • Digital divide means the gulf between people who have ready access to computers and the internet, and those who do not. The student that do not have computers in their home might struggle more than other students. This is because studying and accessing in class work has a lot to do with the internet. The students without their own laptops have to go the extra mile to go to the library to study and get the information they need. This advantage for students may hurt students in the classroom. I will make sure that I give students time in class to complete all of their work so they do not get caught behind.

  • Academic software for students is very necessary especially within this time period. Technology is very advanced and in many ways it is helpful for teachers and students. Two software tools that I will use most likely every day in the classroom include power point and Microsoft word. I will use power points to teach the lessons and have the students come up and click on thing and engage. I will also use word to create my lesson plans and to contact students parents as well.

  • A paragraph on which ELA technology standards you feel most prepared to teach with your existing knowledge and which require more learning on your part. People tend to think the ELA is soley based on Language Art, reading, and writing. ELA stands for Enlish Language Arts, so it makes sense that many people may believe that it is based on reading and writing. ELA is actually way beyond that. ELA is incorporated in every class in the school system. Every class includes reading, writing, and speaking. I plan on teaching first grade, so I looked into the ELA technology standards for this grade. The technology that I feel the most comfortable with teaching to my class include using online scavenger hunts, simple text features, kid-friendly websites, online textbooks, smartboard, blogs, and smartphones. The technology I need to learn on my part to improve my classroom include promethean board activities, pxlr, storyjumper, and mp3 recorder. I am excited to learn about these different types of techonology!
  • The resource within the CPALMS Educator Toolkit that I would use is the different student resources to help teach science. I would use all of the different resources included within this. It gives me great ideas on lessons and how to teach it. They incorporate tutorials within with is very useful. Different examples of the resources within first science include Magnification, temperature, seeing stars, parts of a plant, and many more. The CPALMS will be very useful for me because these tutorial give me step by step ways to education the children in my classroom.
  • The Newletter Design assignment was filled with many new skills I was not very good at. I was not aware how to add a date automatically or add borders. I also was not sure how to use WordArt. I liked making this newsletter because I know I will be making them in the future for my class. I did not like that it was graded so harshly because I believe that Newsletters are supposed to be unique and that made it a little less unique. Although, I do understand that it was created to make sure we knew how to use all the tools within Word. I will use all of these tool I learned in the future because word is so prevalent as a student and as a teacher.

  • Word is a huge part of my college career. I use word to take notes in class and to write papers or make assignments. Microsoft word is a great way to take notes because you can use bullets and different numbering. It is also great because papers can be exported in different ways, like as a PDF. Once a PDF is created then it is easy to share it with a teacher through email or canvas. Teachers also use Word to share these PDFs with us. When they make a syllabus or anything after that, they post it to us through canvas. Word is a huge help as a college student and teacher.
  • In FSU copyright is very important. Everyone should be able to own there own work, and have the right to his or her own work. People put work in and should have ownership to it. I will make sure of this when I am a teacher. I will make it very clear to students that their work is theirs, they have control over it and should not steal work from someone else. This is important for the rest of persons life.
  • Academic honestly, privacy, and cyberbully are all issues that can occur in a classroom. A solution for academic honestly is sending home a sheet in the beginning of each year for the students to sign, saying that they swear to be honest about their academics. I would also have the plagiarism check on papers. For privacy, every student can use their own computers when needed. For cyberbullying I will teach a lesson in the very beginning of school and share that this could cause depression or worse. I would take each other these very seriously in my classroom and make sure to prevent them.

Blog Journal 1

  • Many things influence teachers and students to use technology in the classroom. We now live in a world that is revolved around technology. Our technology driven world leads our leading methods to be revolved around technology. Teachers use smart boards and children use chrome books or computers. This is an easy way to share and receive information. Technology gives us information right at our fingertips. Students can google anything they need in the classroom through safari and they can also use word and other software to take notes and retain information. Technology in the classroom is very prevalent for both students and teachers.

  • Today we learned about the ISTE standards. One standard that is meaningful to me is the collaborator. The collaborator dedicate time to collaborate with both colleagues and students to improve practices, discover and share resources and ideas, and solve problems. I think this is so important in life in general and for educators. Educators have all different resources and ideas and the best thing to do is share these ideas with one another. One standard that seems outside of my current skill set is designer. I am still learning about designs in technology, so I am not very strong in that aspect. I would love to learn to be a better designer so I could have a lot of lessons full of designs.

  • A digital native is a person born or brought up during the age of digital technology and therefore familiar with computers and the internet from an early age. I both agree and disagree with the label "digital native". I do believe that more people are exposed to technology closing to this time in age because of how prevalent it is. Although, I also think it depends on the family as well and what they are exposed to. Children that aren't exposed to any technology in the classroom shouldn't be compared a digital native, while students that are exposed to technology both at home and in the classroom should. Some teachers and good with technology and some are not. The students in my classroom help my teacher with her smartboard each day because she is not an expert in this. I do not think this changes my learning experience because then the teachers are taught and are able to use it here on out. I believe it will be the same way when I am a teacher in the future. I know that my students may be more in-tune with the technology and I will be sure to have them inform me or go to a class on this to help myself and my student.

initial blog post #0

Hello, name is Olivia DeBiasi! I am a senior here at Florida State. My major is family and child sciences and my minor is education. I chose this major because I have a passion for children, and I hope to impact children's lives one day. All my life  I have worked in job areas pertaining to children. I have an older brother and a younger sister. I am from New Jersey and have lived there my whole life. I hope to live in NYC after I graduate!

My prior experience using technology in an educational setting is the basics. I have always had a smart board in my classes that teachers have used to share class information, and teach lessons. I have also used desktop computers and chrome books in classrooms. I have used printers and laptops as well. Within my laptop, I have used software like word and google chrome.

I hope to learn more about the technology used in a classroom. The two reasons I hope for this are because I have been in classrooms all my life that include technology and the other reason is that I might be a teacher in one of these classrooms in the future. All my life I have experiences different types of technologies in my classroom, including ones that I am not completely familiar with. I hope that this class teachers me more about the technology in the classroom and prepares me to teach other with this technology in the future!
